NBC report blames poor album sales on iPod, iTunes

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Poor NBC. First they pull out because Apple doesn’t let them have their way, and they go off and start Hulu (which isn’t half bad if you ask me–too cheap to get cable or satellite and TV reception at home is just a bunch of ants having a picnic on screen. This has been a solid alternative for us.) Then they complain that Apple’s contributing to the death of CD sales. Maybe they’re getting sour that they’re not being as profitable with their album sales and are looking to blame someone else for their hubris other than themselves? Yeah, Apple’s a good target for non-innovators. Remember: Change is BAD!

The Golden Compass = who cares?

I’m so tired of hearing about this. I’ve gotten an email probably a dozen times so far about how it’s an anti-Christian movie and that Philip Pulman really wants to make kids atheists as a result of reading his books, and I don’t care. Why? Because everyone’s entitled to their opinion. It’s hypocritical to judge someone based on the merits of naysayers—who probably haven’t even read the books.

Personally, I’ve read the books and enjoyed them for what they appear to be: works of fiction. Do they go all out to tear down Christianity? No, the entire story takes place in a fictionalized universe that has multiple alternate realities. Yeah, there’s an odd-feeling passage or two. But that didn’t ruin my enjoyment of them, or cause me to reconsider my beliefs. I just read them, enjoyed them and moved on to the next book.

Now they’re a “hot” Hollywood property. Fine, has Hollywood ever been religious or anti-religious without first assessing bottom line first? Hollywood has a fantastic reputation for watering down and ruining anything, good or bad. If you want to attack someone/something for not espousing Christian values and morals, try the entertainment industry. Turn off your TV, radio and computer, because there’s much worse out there than this. Better yet, why don’t you go out and create something yourself instead of attacking others who’ve made the effort.

(Sometimes I think it just boils down to petty jealously that someone’s wildly successful doing something someone else isn’t good at all, so they criticize…)

Thinking Outide the Box

Ever run into this? It seems I’ve been running into a lot more of this lately than I would prefer. What is it that keeps an individual from exploring things that are new to them? Is it fear of the unknown, or are they just so comfortable with where they’re at that they have absolutely no desire to grow anymore?

Personally, I think if you’re not trying to learn and grow, you’re stagnating and shrinking. Hm, I wonder which one would serve as the better business model?
