David Pogue on his unanswered questions. My fav: Who are the morons who respond to junk-mail offers? My answer: Don’t know, but sure would like them to stop responding.

Thursday, October 18th, 2007Eric Meyer on the 2007 Web Design Survey
Thursday, October 18th, 2007Eric Meyer has posted about his involvement in putting together the 2007 Web Design Survey. Thanks guys!
Why it’s a big deal.
Tuesday, June 12th, 2007With Apple’s release of Safari for Windows yesterday (BTW, the redesign–or should I say realignment: Beautiful! As all things Apple tend to be. Haven’t dug too far into it yet thought. But I’m really enjoying it. Absolutely stunning update, cudos to their entire team for pulling it off.) Apple’s set the stage for a major offensive for dominance online.
As a strategic move on Apple’s part, it makes complete sense. With Safari now running on PCs, the immenent release of the iPhone–internet browsing powered by Safari–and a firm lock on the Mac browser market–not discounting Camino, Firefox, Opera, OmniWeb Shiira, et. al, all fine browsers in their own right, Apple can now develop, along with others, online applications without worrying about shutting out a particular market segment. Of course they do have some challenges in overcoming issues with financial institutions and the like, but most importantly they have a browser in place where they need it to be, on the devices that connect to the Internet the most. It will be interesting to see what the online landscape looks like this time next year.
That does raise the question of will Safari be available as a stand alone mobile browser as Opera Mobile is now? I hope so. My gut feeling tells me that this step might technologically still be a ways off.
Safari on Windows Beta
Monday, June 11th, 2007
Whoa! I don’t know what to think. First, Cameron points out the new design over at Apple. Surfing around a bit, I do like it. What blows me away though is a little nugget over in the downloads section. Safari for Windows! (Mind explosion!)
My thoughts:
- About time! (Die-hard Mac guy. I love to see PC folk experience some form of Mac goodness.)
- If this goes like iTunes for Windows did, IE’s in serious trouble.
- What was Steve thinking during D5, knowing this was coming out within a couple weeks of sitting down right next to Bill?

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007Photoshop CS3 Beta
Saturday, December 16th, 2006Late night surfing over at MacUpdate, found me noticing a rather significant release from yesterday. Don’t know how I missed it, but Adobe’s released a public beta for Photoshop CS3! Wow!
What’s significant is that it marks Adobe’s first ever public beta for their flagship product. There’s a nifty little video over at MacWorld with John Nack and Jason Snell discussing it. I’d recommend you check it out.
I’ll just postulate for a second as to why I think that Adobe’s making this particular move: there are a lot of pissed off creative pros using Intel Macs with a slow CS2 version of Photoshop. A large enough, and vocal enough number that Adobe’s released the public beta as a feel good, “don’t-be-mad-at-us-because-we’re-not-releasing-until-summer-2007″ gesture.
Why do I say tha you ask? Simple. The only way you’re going to get the CS3 beta to work longer than 2 days is to have a valid CS2 serial.
With that said, I’m truly excited by what I saw in the brief demo video by Mr. Snell. The quick selection tool looks fantastic, can’t wait to try it out personally (Which’ll have to wait until I get to work on Monday as I’m only running CS at home… Bugger.)
Email issues
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006Just got back from a relaxing weekend with the family and discovered that I had some email issues while away. If you tried to email me this weekend (between June 30 and July 4), most of, if not all of, my incoming email didn’t get delivered, just bounced back to the original sender. If you sent me something, would you mind resending it? I’ll reply to it as soon as I can. Thanks.
Launch time!
Wednesday, June 14th, 2006Just pushed the new front page live and updated my header graphic here. Still working on putting the blog and site together (gotta put on my coder hat and dig into WP or TextPattern to see what I can do) but at least they’re somewhat visually synched up now. I’d love to hear what you think.
Another post coming soon talking about the design, until then you can browse my portfolio
Targeted Marketing… um, yeah.
Thursday, May 25th, 2006So I’ll admit that I get a few solicitations via email that are sent from legit sources occasionally. But this morning I got one that was pretty off-base and got me wondering if some companies just ignore any data they get when creating their promotional mailings?
Case in point: This is from Free Biz Mag who have been the source for some decent subscriptions for myself. But a lot of their offers have been a bit off-base. I’ve gotten offers for golf magazines (sadly not enough time or money to persue), sailing magazines (I’m rather land-locked) and my personal favorite, Opera News (huh?). But this morning took the cake.
What free subscription did they offer me? I’ll let the picture speak for itself:

Still Breathing.
Wednesday, April 26th, 2006Today we signed off on color proofs for half of the 63 carton designs that I’ve been working on at GiftTree. Printing starts tomorrow. Overall it’s been a very exciting (and large and exhausting) project to work on, but I’ve learned several new things as it progressed.
The project timeline was a rather agressive one, from start to finish in less than 6 weeks. A few things have needed to be tweaked for some of the specialty finished, so you could tack on a few more days. Our schedule dictated the timing as we’re gearing up to produce our holiday catalog next… Fortunately, we’ve already done the lion’s share of the planning.
One trick I’m particularly proud of is creating a nice worn look using vectors. Once things settle down, I’ll post a little tutorial on how to do it.
